Xbox Could Have A Major ‘Open-World Shooter’ In The Pipeline, But It’s Still Early Days

The team at Blizzard is now recruiting

Following recent rumours about a supposed StarCraft shooter being in development, Blizzard is now recruiting for what’s being advertised as an “upcoming open-world shooter game” on its careers page. Blizzard is specifically looking to fill the associate design director, senior designer and principal designer positions.

Unfortunately, no further details have been revealed just yet, but this follows reports from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, who recently mentioned in his new book ‘Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment’ how a small team was apparently “incubating” a new StarCraft shooter.

The same rumours at the time claimed this shooter was being developed by a handful of talent who previously worked on a cancelled survival game, with this new project also believed to be led by industry veteran Dan Hay who has previously worked on Ubisoft’s Far Cry series.

Once again, it still seems to be incredibly early for this new project at Blizzard, but many are already convinced. A StarCraft shooter could be in excellent company, with the ‘Team Xbox’ first-person shooter library already made up of major franchises like Halo, iD Software’s DOOM series and even Overwatch.

This update on Blizzard’s recruitment page follows the surprise release of StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection on PC Game Pass earlier this month.

How would you feel about an IP like StarCraft being transformed into an open-world FPS under the Xbox brand? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
