In a pivotal decision following the recent passing of its founder, Akua Donkor, the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has selected Roman Fadda as its new flagbearer for the December 7, 2024, presidential elections. The party’s executives in Kumasi reached this decision on November 3, officially endorsing Fadda as Donkor’s successor.
Before her death, Donkor had laid out a clear succession plan, naming her vice as the one to take over leadership in the event of her passing. In respect of her wishes, the GFP’s constituency and national leaders came together to unanimously elevate Roman Fadda to the party’s top position.
A spokesperson for the party expressed strong confidence in Roman Fadda’s leadership, stating, “With the full support of our constituency and national executives, we proudly endorse Roman Fadda as our flagbearer, and we do so in Jesus’ name.”
Roman Fadda’s appointment marks the start of a new era for the Ghana Freedom Party as it looks to uphold Akua Donkor’s legacy in the 2024 elections.
Known for her bold presence in Ghanaian politics and her unique governance style, Akua Donkor left a lasting impression on the GFP. Her passing closes a major chapter, but her endorsement of Roman Fadda as her successor reflects her desire for the party’s mission to continue. Party members are hopeful that Roman Fadda’s leadership will carry forward the values and vision that Akua Donkor championed throughout her political career.
